1:00pm:
1 cup of orange juice w/ 20g of protein powder (100 calories)
1 small garden salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing (150 calories)
8:00pm:
1 cup of orange juice w/ 20g of protein powder (100 calories)
2 lettuce "tacos" with salsa, pineapple, and hot peppers (50 calories?)
So I went to the dentist this morning for my cleaning. I hate that gritty feeling afterwards!
The rest of the day was either spent preparing for my girls' birthday parties or napping.
We had the parties in the evening. (Pictures can be seen on Hornischfeger.com.) Now
we're home and unpackaging all the gifts, which can be a chore because everything is
packaged so securely nowadays.
Sorry JT, I didn't like your lettuce tacos recipe (eatqod.com). I thought I'd give it a try, but
bleah. I'd rather just wait for real thing. I should have just had a boiled egg-white and a V8
like I was going to. Oh well.

DAY 104 - Sun Apr 23 2006 - A SWITCHEROO DAY
Breakfast (1:00pm): 4 blueberry toaster waffles with peanut butter & syrup
5 pieces of bacon
Coffee with Splenda & milk
fresh pineapple slices
Dinner (6:30pm): Barbecued steak
2 pieces of garlic bread
garden salad with ranch dressing
just fatigue from the 4½ hours of sleep I got the previous night, and all the
walking around in the sun without sunscreen in the daytime (bad!). I got a
good sleep last night.
So, another Switcheroo day. Why? Well, there's the ever-popular excuse my
wife isn't working tonight so I want to eat dinner with her. But mostly it's because
tomorrow I have a dentist appointment. I go in for a cleaning, after which my teeth
and gums are always sore and gritty for the rest of the day. Eating won't be very
pleasurable. I'd rather just eat today and fast tomorrow.
Also, in the evening, are my daughters' birthday parties. This way I'll escape eating
cake, hot dogs and chips. (My two middle daughters were born on the same day,
exactly one year apart. So we have combined birthday parties for the two of them.
At least until they get older.)

Snack (10:00pm): Bacardi frozen daiquiri (Piña colada) w/ pineapple slices (non-alcoholic)
I'm feeling better today. So I guess it wasn't flu symptoms after all. Probablyjust fatigue from the 4½ hours of sleep I got the previous night, and all the

The weather was really nice so we went to the park tonight and had a barbecue/picnic for dinner.
(I guess I never had lunch. Instead I lifted my weights and folded some laundry.)

DAY 103 - Sat Apr 22 2006
Breakfast (10:00am): 2 pieces of brown toast w/ chunky peanut butter
1 apple, sliced
1 bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats with Peaches cereal
Snack (12:00pm): 1 small bag of Blue Diamond barbecue almonds
Lunch (2:30pm): 4 slices of cheese & mushroom pizza
1 green salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing
Dinner (10:00pm): 2 BLT sandwiches on brown toast
Plate of cut fruit with low-cal "chocolate" dip
I went to work feeling not very good today. We were out all morning at the
Earth Day celebrations at Bear Creek Park with the kids. I think I got too
much sun there. Right after I finished lunch I got a massive stomach ache
but I came to work anyway. I think I'll be leaving early though.
I didn't lift my weights like I wanted to because I wasn't feeling well. Flu
symptoms have been going around my work and my kids school, so I may
or may not have a touch of that as well. Hopefully it doesn't last long.
Well, I have 2 days off to recuperate after tonight.
---
During the morning, before we went out, I think I experienced the 'ketosis
yuckies' as jt calls it. (That's when I feel washed out and light-headed and
nauseous, and get head rushes.) I thought I'd better take in some more
salt and protein, so I ate the bag of almonds. That helped.
I ended up leaving work at 9:00pm. I felt better after I got home and made
myself dinner. My wife bought a bunch of fresh fruit, so I chopped up some
strawberries, grapes, cantaloupe and bananas and made a warm chocolate
dip out of Fry's Cocoa powder and Splenda (a little milk, a little water, and
into the microwave. Yum!)

DAY 102 - Fri Apr 21 2006 - NO EAT DAY 50
I was up until almost 3:00am this morning watching Survivor on tape. It was a really good one. Bruce couldn't poo and he had to be Medevac'd off the island. (Reality television doesn't get any better than that, does it?)
I was up 4½ hours later getting the kids ready for school and driving my wife to work. Why do I do this to myself? I know I'm going to be tired the next day but sometimes I just can't get to sleep right away after I get home from work.
But despite being tired today, I still got some things accomplished. I did end up
buying protein powder and Kefir. It took me a few stores to find plain, unflavoured protein. Most places just sold vanilla, chocolate or strawberry. I wanted something I could mix with anything. The Kefir wasn't as hard to find as I thought it would be. They sell it in the dairy section of our local supermarket.
Today I ate low-calorie mini-meals for the first time on a no eat day. I guess I can't really technically call them "no eat" days anymore. More like "low eat" days. Anyway, whatever. I'm still not eating normally.
For breakfast, at about 10:00am, I warmed up some V8 V-Go juice and added a small amount of diced vegetables. Carrots, celery, cherry tomato, and yellow pepper. I estimate it was about 100 calories. Maybe less, but I'll count it as 100. (I don't have a food scale yet, so I'm just winging it for now.)
Later, at about 1:30pm, I made myself a mini-salad, with lettuce, diced cucumber, tomato, and yellow pepper. I took 2 tbs of Kefir and mixed in lime juice, salt, pepper, and dried parsley and poured that on as my dressing. I estimate that was another 100 calories. Oh, before I ate that, I mixed 20g of protein powder with water and drank that. Yuck. Had to hold my nose. I need to mix it with something other than water (orange juice?) in the future. It doesn't taste too good.
At about 2:30pm, I had a hard-boiled egg-white, yolk removed, with salt & pepper. That would have been about 70 calories. So I'm up to 270 calories so far.
At 6:45pm I had a coffee break and so I took my walk. I ate a few apple slices along the way. Maybe another 50 calories, probably less (a whole medium apple supposedly has 72, according to CalorieKing.com.)
On my dinner break I'm going to have another 20g of protein powder, then drink another cup of warm V-Go with diced celery added. Probably another 42 calories (40 in the drink, 2 for "1 small stalk" of celery.)
So altogether today, that'll be 362 calories. Which is an outside estimate. If I actually weighed it all out, it would probably be less. I don't feel at all hungry either. It's nice to be able to look forward to these mini-meals throughout the day instead of relying on all that Aspartame to satisfy me. I haven't bought any more diet pop lately, but I still chew my cinnamon Inferno gum.

This is my weight set which I'll be using again tomorrow afternoon.

DAY 101 - Thu Apr 20 2006
Breakfast (8:00am): 1 bowl of vanilla mini-wheats cereal
2 fried eggs
5 pieces of crispy bacon
hash browns
2½ pieces of white toast w/ margarine
1 coffee w/ Splenda & 2% milk
Lunch (1:00pm): Seasoned chicken breast deli meat sandwich w/ mustard, mayo & lettuce
purple grapes
1 glass of 2% milk
Dinner (5:00pm): Foot-long Subway veggies & cheese sub on brown bun
Tim Hortons French vanilla café, large
Snack (8:45pm): 1 peach yogurt
1 red apple
(11:15pm): 1 orange
I decided to treat myself with a Tim Horton's cappuccino today on my way to work.
I exercised and worked out today with my weights, so I was feeling pretty good. I wanted
to reward myself for my efforts. So I did. I don't have sweet treats very often. That bag of
Easter chocolates on the kitchen counter tempts me every day, though. (Wish the kids
would hurry up and eat that!)
Had an early dinner on the way to work. I've been hungrier since I started my weight training,
I think. Especially on my OFF day yesterday. That was killer. I'm not usually hungry on my
no eat day anymore, I thought I had overcome that. But I guess the extra exercise demands
more calories. So I'm glad I'm starting to eat some of those eatQOD mini-meals. I need to
buy some protein powder tomorrow. Going for my walk now on my work break.

Brooke posted a great article called "Lose Weight Like a Guy" on the journaltosuccess forum.
It rings particularly true for me. If you're a woman who hates how men seem to lose weight so
easily, you should read it. It's funny! It also mentions an alternate-day fasting-type diet near
the end of the article, involving eating 800 calories every other day.
