DAY 1 - Tue Jan 10 2006 - START DAY

It took me ten days to decide on a diet plan. I finally thought up this idea on my own, and
wondered if anyone else had ever tried it, or had any success with it. My idea was to only
eat every other day, thereby cutting my yearly calorie consumption in half. That's like not
eating for six months out of the year! Only, instead of not eating for six months straight,
I just wouldn't eat every other day. It seemed like a good idea in theory.

I wasn't sure how hard that would be on my body from a health standpoint, so I quickly
went on the Internet and found that others had indeed tried it. From what I can see, there
are actually some health benefits. The sites in the links on the right tell how fasting every

other day can actually reduce the risk of cancer (at least in lab mice) and that calorie
restriction can extend the lives of everything from yeast and worms to rodents and, possibly,
monkeys. So hey, I'm kind of like yeast and a monkey. It doesn't seem too hard. I'm going
to give it a shot.

Starting weight: 225 lbs
Height: 5'11
Age: 32
Waist size: 38
Exercise level: Low

The goal: Lose body fat by eating only every other day. My goal is to lose 35 lbs by summer
(June). I'll see how I look and feel at 190 lbs and decide then if I want to go further with this.

Ultimately I'd like to keep this up for an entire year.

The plan: Consume nothing but water every other day. Eat mostly whatever I want on the
in-between days, with an eye to slowly eating healthier and nearly eliminating sweets and
snack foods, except as an occasional treat. Record my meals in this blog, monitor my eating
habits, and try to improve them. Also increase my exercise level.
